Project Objective


The objective of the project is to strengthen research and management of the marine environment and it's resources, as well as to enhance human resource development in this important field. This will be accomplished by facilitating collaborative research in the fields of marine ecology, aquatic resource management and pollution studies as well as bilateral exchange of expertise and information for the sustainable development and management of the Straits of Malacca.

 

Project Output


It is envisioned that at the end of the technical cooperation programme, the following will be the output of the project:

Capacity Building

  1. enhancement of expertise of UPM researchers

  2. Improvement and upgrading of research facilities and equipment in UPM

  3. Enhancement of training capability for graduate level studies in UPM

Research Output

  1. Collaborative Research Output Such as

  1. Assessment of the present status of the Straits of Malacca in biological, ecological, and socio-economics aspects

  2. Analysis and evaluation of oceanographic and current status of pollution in Straits of Malacca

  3. Analysis and evaluation of the impacts of pollution on aquatic resources and marine environment

  4. Formulation of the mitigation and abatement measures of environmental problems

  5. Quantitative assessment of ecological and environmental risks of marine pollution

  1. Development of a reference centre on maritime environmental studies, with special emphasis on the Straits of Malacca
