Field of Expertise: Molecular Population Genetics.

 

Current Research:

 

1. Molecular population genetics of the milky stork (Myceria cinerea) and the painted stork (M. leucocephala) found in Malaysia.(Project leader.) Fundamental research grant, Ministry of Higher Education, RM 74,000 for 2007/2008.

 

2. Identification of diagnostic DNA microsatellite markers for heavy metal pollution in the biomonitoring agent, the green-lipped mussel, Perna viridis. (Project leader.) eScience fund, MOSTI, RM 146,000 for 2007/2008.

 

3. Molecular polymorphisms in the giant freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergi. (Coresearcher with Dr. Subha Bhassu, Freshwater Research Institute, Department of Fisheries, Malaysia.). FRI operating funds RM 60,000 for 2006/07.

 

4. Molecular polymorphisms in sturgeon fish from Iran. (Coresearcher with Mr. Mehdi Moghim, Caspian Sea Research Institute, Islamic Republic of Iran.)

 

5. Investigating colony and population structure of the subterranean termites (Coptotermes curvignathus) (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae) using microsatellite and mtDNA markers. (Coresearcher with Mr. Shawn Cheng, Forest Research Institute of Malaysia). RM 70,000 from Dow Chemicals for 2006/2007.

 

6. Molecular genetic studies on rhinocerous beetle (Oryctes rhinocerous) populations in Malaysian oil palm plantations. (Coresearcher with Dr. Rita Muhamad, Faculty of Agriculture, UPM.) eScience fund, MOSTI RM 156,000 for 2007/08.

 

7. Development of diagnostic DNA makers of Ganoderma boninense, by random amplified microsatellites (RAMS) and Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) gene typing. (Coresearcher with Dr. Faridah Abdullah, Faculty of Science, UPM.) eScience fund, MOSTI RM 180,000 for 2007/08
